Duckworth Girls help to raise vital funds for
Cancer Research
The Duckworth Girls took part in the Race for Life at RAF Waddington on Sunday 17th May 2010.
This is the second year that we have taken part in the Race for Life. Last year the team took part in the 5K at Lincoln - for 2010 the team numbers have increased, with some newcomers joining us in the race, and we have doubled the distance this year to 10k!!
Team members for this years race included: Gail Smith, Linda Ashton, Karen Evans, Val Thorn, Julie Umpleby, Gemma Jackson, Dawn Barks, Jo Parrish, Emily Pounder and Dan Ashton (although he didn't really 'run' but was pushed around in a wheel chair).
For this years race we were blessed with glorious sunshine which made a welcome change from last years freezing rain. All the girls completed the whole 10k (even though Dawn only actually entered the 5k).
First home was Gail closely followed by the newest member of the team, Emily along with Dawn. The others took a little longer to finish, mainly due to them taking turns in pushing Linda's son, Dan who unfortunately injured his knee earlier in the week and completed the 10k in a wheel chair.
The event was a total success and with all your generous donations we were able to collect £628.64 for this extremely worthy charity.
